Burnsville Breakfast Rotary Grant updates equipment &

moves Backpack Project to the High School

A Rotary District 5950 & Burnsville Breakfast Rotary grant moved the BrainPower in a BackPack Project to a new, larger, and more convenient space. BrainPower in a BackPack has outgrown its food storage and packing space at Sky Oaks Elementary School where it began, and this limits the number of children who can receive food. This grant purchased new shelving, refrigerator for food, a dedicated cart, and "sweat equity" to expand and move the program to a new, more spacious, location at the Burnsville High School. The new dedicated room is located adjacent to the cafeteria, which provides adequate space for packing and a convenient place for students to volunteer after school without having to travel to a different building.

Brainpower in a Backpack Program Info:

BrainPower in a BackPack is a project of Independent School District 191's Community Education Youth Service Program. For the past five years, Burnsville High School students have been raising funds, collecting donations, and packing weekend food for children in the school district who live in food insecure homes. Students and volunteer groups pack the food weekly for distribution to children.
