Philmont, NM. Hiking Trip
The Burnsville Breakfast Rotary Club welcomed our own Doug Johnson this morning who presented his scouting trip with his grandson to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico last summer. Doug discussed all the preparation that was necessary to make the trip successful which encompassed several days covering 54 miles with elevations between 6,500-11,736ft and hiking 4-8 miles/day. There were a total of 11 individuals who made the journey with 8 scouts between the ages of 14-18 yrs. and 3 chaperones ages 53-68 years. This was a true scouting experience that challenged them on endurance, navigation (no signage whatsoever), and living without their cell phones! 📱 🤪 At the end of the day, a great time was had by all!
